Community Service

SCMA strives to provide members with several community service volunteering opportunities throughout the year in order to add value to both the members as well as the greater Lansing community.

Safe Halloween:

Hosted by MSU’s Project Green & White, Broad Student Organizations have the opportunity to bring the fun of trick-or-treating to elementary students in Lansing who may not be able to go trick-or-treating otherwise. SCMA volunteers dress up in costumes and pass out Halloween candy.

Adopt-A-Family:

Working with Safe Haven in East Lansing, SCMA sponsors and supports a family’s wish-list for the Christmas holiday each year.

Valentine’s Day Dance:

SCMA hosts a Valentine’s Day Dance for people with disabilities and special needs within the greater Lansing area. The event is held in the beginning of February at the MSU Union and includes a DJ and dance floor, photo booth, and Valentine’s craft making.

Ice Skating:

Held at Munn Ice Arena, SCMA and other Broad Student Organizations host an annual ice skating event for elementary students. Volunteers assist with tying skates, helping students get around on the ice, and showing them a warm Spartan welcome to campus!

Food Bank:

Working with the Greater Lansing Food Bank, SCMA spends an afternoon packaging food as well as sorting and moving crates. This event is a great way to meet and interact with other SCMA students.
